First steps...
Over recent years I've read many things about goals and creating new life habits and it seems that all of these sources seem to agree that it's important to focus on one habit at a time.
I've chosen rising early as my first life-altering habit to work on. Last spring I attended a tech/blogging conference with some friends called Podcamp Nashville which was a new and interesting experience. This also exposed me to some online resources via Twitter that I might not have come across otherwise. At the conference, I attended a session by Erik Fisher called "Building Your Digital Brand Without Demolishing Your Personal Life" which was insightful even if you aren't trying to build your online presence (which I wasn't). That led me to look him up online and start listening to his podcast Beyond the To Do List and through that I was introduced to the Early to Rise ebook by Andy Traub.
Early to Rise : Learn to Rise Early in 30 Days provides practical tips on getting better sleep, rising early, and is full of encouraging language to help you stay motivated and avoid self-defeating habits. To be honest, I did start this book and path toward rising early once earlier this year and only got about half way through because I let other things distract me from my goals (not because of any flaws in the book). In order to make this a successful run, I'm going to need an accountability network.
Each morning I will post a picture of my clock showing what time I woke up - my current goal is 6:00am but I'd like to move it to 5 or 5:30am eventually. I will be posting this on my blog and Instagram (which automatically posts to Facebook and Twitter). Please call me out if my clock shows a later time than my goal... that will motivate me even more to keep reaching for the goal.
More on why I've chosen this tomorrow...

PS: I wanted to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart for the notes of encouragement from everyone yesterday. You all are an amazing support to me!
